A French-Egyptian team has begun documenting rock carvings and inscriptions south of Aswan that were submerged when the area was flooded to create the Aswan High Dam in the 1970s. Working in the area between the dam and the reservoir, the team is using archaeological scanning, underwater photography and video, and photogrammetry to scan and record inscriptions. Depictions of Amenhotep III and Thutmose IV of the Eighteenth Dynasty have already been found, together with images of the Twenty-sixth Dynasty kings Psamtek II and Apries.
