Gorgan Wall
I was really interested to see the Gorgan Wall covered again in issue 119 – what a fantastic article. The drone photos and scale of forts and wall was particularly impressive. I was surprised to see, on a recent visit to Hereford Cathedral, that the Gorgon Wall is even shown on the 13th century Mappa Mundi (below). I find it very surprising that this wall was documented 800 years ago, but is not widely known today.

Minoan bull jumpers
Re: ‘Knossos: seeking the labyrinth’, CWA 118
The supposition that Minoan bull jumpers were rounding up cattle is so hilariously mistaken that I am assured the author has never been closer to live cattle than when putting a steak on a grill. There is no part (and never had been) of rounding up cattle that is advanced by completing handsprings over a bull’s back or trying to grasp it by the horn. That would not only spook the cattle into a stampede – just the opposite of rounding them up – but seriously endanger the jumper’s life. Bulls kill. Some of us – your subscribers – raise cattle: we know that was ridiculous.
