Dr Hourig Sourouzian, Director of the Colossi of Memnon and Amenhotep III Temple Conservation Project in Luxor, was recently honoured by Sherif Fathy, the Minister of Tourism, for her outstanding contributions to the restoration of the mortuary temple. The ceremony took place during the unveiling of two colossal statues of Amenhotep III that have been returned to their original location at the third pylon of the temple. The unveiling of the alabaster colossi, measuring 13.6m and 14.5m in height, follows extensive restoration and the reassembly of hundreds of parts found scattered across the site. The original bases of the statues were recovered from the Karnak Open Air Museum.
