• The French mission at Taposiris Magna has uncovered a finely crafted marble head depicting an elderly man (below), dating to the Ptolemaic Period. 

• A suitcase with the monogram ‘HC’, believed to have been owned by Howard Carter, has been found in a house in County Durham in the north of England. Carter had given the suitcase to his colleague John Healey, whose son recently found it under a bed.

• The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has announced that the Grand Egyptian Museum (below) will officially open in full on 3 July. You can read about highlights of the collection in ‘Out and about’ here.
