Telling the story of 200 years of discoveries in Egypt and the formation of the museum’s Egyptian collection, the exhibition will include nearly 200 objects, including sarcophagi, funerary stelae, canopic jars, and shabtis (many on display for the first time), as well as a selection of unique historical photographs.

An exhibition tracing writing’s evolution from hieroglyphs to Coptic, hieratic, and demotic, and the variety of media on which it was written, opening a window on to the thoughts and society of ancient Egyptians. The 170 exhibits include papyri, statues, and cuneiform tablets from the Royal Museums of Turin.

This exhibition reflects nearly 3,000 years of ancient Nubian civilisation, through highlights from the extensive collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. On display are rich objects made of gold, silver, semi-precious stones, and faience, which display a mix of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman influences, but have their own vibrant Nubian character.

An international touring exhibition of world-class artefacts from the Manchester Museum collection, which finally arrives back home at the newly refurbished museum. The displays feature more than 100 objects and eight mummies, illustrating life for the wealthy in multicultural Roman Egypt, with its diverse Egyptian, Roman, and Greek communities and cultural influences.

Exploring mummification and funerary rites in ancient Egypt and other parts of the world, the exhibition displays various animal and human mummies from public and private collections, including three human mummies from the collections of the Muséum de Toulouse specially restored and re-examined for the exhibition.
