Ness of Brodgar: past, present, and future

The Ness of Brodgar is the subject of the biggest exhibition ever held at the Orkney Museum, opening this May. It celebrates the final season of fieldwork at the famous site, which comes to an end this August. Ness of Brodgar: past, present, and future features finds from 20 years of excavation at the Ness, the story of the investigations and the site’s discovery, and an examination of what is to come in the future, with extensive post-excavation work well under way. Entry is free and booking is not required.

Penlee House presents an evening lecture from Dick Cole, the Sites Officer for the Cornwall Heritage Trust. His talk will discuss the significance of the rich and diverse archaeological sites that the Trust owns and looks after in West Cornwall – including Caer Bran, Carn Euny, Sancreed Beacon, and Tregonning Hill, near Helston – along with information about ongoing maintenance and volunteer engagement with the historic landscape of West Penwith. Tickets cost £10, or £5 for Friends of Penlee House.

As part of the ongoing Dublin Castle Excavations Project, and marking the 400th anniversary of the collapse of its north-west tower (the Cork Tower) on 2 May 1624, this National Monuments Service Conference will focus on the 17th- and 18th-century aspects of the castle’s long history. The one-day conference will highlight fascinating insights into life in the castle and in Cole Alley, as revealed by archaeological excavations and research. Tickets cost €15.

Prehistory in the Present is the second in a series of Day Schools presented by the Prehistoric Society on ‘Prehistory: past, present, and future’; this year the event will focus on what is currently happening in this field. Speakers will explore how different audiences are being engaged in looking at evidence from prehistoric periods in Britain and Ireland, how the subject is researched, and how the discipline is developing. The event will take place both online and in person. Tickets cost £40 (in-person admission) or £20 (online only), with concession prices available.
