Cotswold Archaeology’s latest monograph (free to download at http://www.cotswoldarchaeology.co.uk/publication) covers excavations that took place ahead of the construction of the Collection Management Facility, Science, and Innovation Park at the former site of RAF Wroughton between 2018 and 2020. The report is well-organised, with chapters offering a chronological exploration of the excavation results (from Mesolithic to modern), followed by a neatly categorised summary and catalogue of the artefacts. The report then looks at the environmental evidence and scientific analyses, before concluding with an in-depth discussion of the entire multi-period site.

The site itself is fascinating, boasting among its features more than ten roundhouses, as well as inhumation burials, Beaker pits, and a Roman cemetery, all of which have been included in the volume’s excellent photographs and illustrations. Contributions by various experts from the Cotswold Archaeology team, on everything from lipids analysis to animal remains, make this an engaging read for archaeologists across a variety of disciplines.
