PHARAOH

In association with the British Museum, this exhibition celebrates 3,000 years of ancient Egyptian art and culture through more than 500 individual pieces from the British Museum’s permanent collection, curated specially for Melbourne. Highlights include a carved green siltstone head of Thutmose III, jewellery including a Middle Kingdom electrum and lapis girdle with amulets, and an enormous stone fist from a colossal statue of Ramesses II.

ELEPHANTINE

A special exhibition of papyrus and ostraca texts, Elephantine reflects the diversity of the multilingual, multicultural, and multi-religious population of Elephantine. The texts, including letters, wills, and medical prescriptions, are contextualised by archaeological finds from Berlin and international museums, and ‘touch stations’ recreating the smells and sounds of ancient Elephantine.

LIVING AND DYING IN EGYPT: FROM ALEXANDER THE GREAT TO CLEOPATRA

Living and Dying in Egypt explores the interactions between Greeks and Egyptians during the Ptolemaic Period through ancient public works, monuments, papyri, material witnesses, and borrowings and appropriations between these two cultures. Artefacts on display are taken from the museum’s Egyptology collection, accompanied by masterpieces from regional, national, and international collections.

MUMMIES OF THE WORLD: THE EXHIBITION

This international touring exhibition features one of the largest collections of human and animal mummies and related artefacts from ancient Egypt, South America, and Europe. Visitors will explore the mummification process through objects, interactives, and multimedia exhibits.
