Following a successful inaugural event last year, the Hereford Military History Festival is back, from 25 to 27 September 2026.
Held across three days in multiple historic venues around Hereford, Britain’s only global military history festival brings together an array of acclaimed authors, historians, and military experts. This year’s programme offers a thorough exploration of the full spectrum of military history, covering topics from ancient Sparta to today’s war in Iran.
Confirmed speakers include Dan Jones on the role of castles in medieval warfare; Andrew Roberts on Napoleon and his marshals; Paul Preston on the Spanish Civil War; Damien Lewis on daring SAS escapes; Helen Carr on a turbulent century of the Plantagenet dynasty; Rory Naismith on Offa, king of the Mercians; 105-year-old WWII veteran Colin Bell on his experiences as an RAF pilot; and many more.
The 2026 festival also sees the launch of the Stirling Memorial Series. It is named after David Stirling, founder of the SAS, and will include discussions and debates on a variety of important issues. The theme of the first event is ‘SAS: Past, Present, and Future’.
