East Lothian Archaeology & Heritage Fortnight

East Lothian Archaeology & Heritage Fortnight is organised annually by East Lothian Council Archaeology Service and supported by AOC Archaeology Group. With a diverse programme of nearly 60 events focused on the rich heritage of East Lothian (including walks, re-enactments, exhibitions, workshops, and online presentations) there is something for everyone. Perth Charterhouse Dig
14-20 September
Hidden beneath the streets of Perth lies an unresolved medieval mystery. In AD 1429, King James I set up Scotland’s only monastic house of the Carthusian Order on the edge of the booming royal burgh of Perth. This September, a team led by AOC Archaeology, with support from local residents, the Guildry Incorporation of Perth, and Perthshire Society of Natural Science, will undertake the first dedicated excavation to search for evidence of Perth’s Charterhouse. A range of public events will take place throughout the excavation, including two open days and guided tours of the site. Kilmartin Glen Guided Walks
Wednesdays until 21 October
Join volunteers from Kilmartin Museum on their Guided Glen Walks every Wednesday at 1pm. You will visit amazing prehistoric sites including the Linear Cairn Cemetery, Nether Largie South Chambered Cairn, and Temple Wood Stone Circle: a fun and friendly way to discover what makes this landscape so special. Online Talk: Rosemarkie, Iona, Orcades and the Importance of the North

Dr Oisín Plumb of the Institute for Northern Studies, University of the Highlands and Islands, will explore the importance of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland in the medieval Christian world. This online lecture will look at how texts and maps up to the 12th century presented Rosemarkie, Iona, and ‘the Orcades’ as both peripheral and central, marking the edge of the known world.
