The Malandry Project (part of the Local Landscape and Hidden History Project)
South Common, Lincoln
11-13, 18-20 July 2025
The Malandry is the site of a medieval leprosarium called the Hospital of the Holy Innocents. It was built towards the end of the 11th century, and was in use for about 500 years. Project volunteers will participate in digging 1m by 1m test-pits in groups of four or five. This is the first time anyone has been allowed to dig on South Common, and the aim is to find evidence for the hospital and chapel, and determine the extent of its cemetery.
