Denbighshire

Hanes Mewn Harddwch 
Bryneglwys, Denbighshire
20 July-15 August (excluding Sundays)

The Clwydian Range Archaeology Group (CRAG) will be investigating several circular features adjacent to an Early Bronze Age ring cairn with a rich assemblage of finds that they excavated in 2022-2023. This is the first of three more years of excavation planned for the site, made possible by a recent National Lottery Heritage Fund grant. The project title (‘History in Beauty’) reflects the site’s location in the heart of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley National Landscape. Participants must be at least 18 years old.

Cost: annual membership required (£20 for new members and £40 in subsequent years); full-time students free. Accommodation and meals not included. 

Hampshire

Alton Medstead Excavation
A farm near Medstead, Hampshire Downs
3-28 September (site closed middle Sundays)

Liss Archaeology are exploring several fields in the Alton Medstead area, continuing and extending investigations of Iron Age and Romano-British features examined in previous seasons. Volunteers can get involved with excavation, finds- processing, sieving, soil analysis, recording, planning, drawing, and surveying. Training is available and all skill levels are welcome, but volunteers must be 18 or older.

North Yorkshire

Bainbridge Archaeological Training Field School
Wensleydale
Week 1: 7-11 September
Week 2: 14-18 September

Join Mercian Archaeological Services CIC for a week-long training excavation focused on a possible medieval manorial complex. You will be taught excavation methods, recording skills, and finds-processing. The course is suitable for all levels, from beginners to experienced diggers, and includes a mixture of classroom sessions and hands-on training. Accommodation not included.

Stirling

4-14 August

Part of ongoing research into the Forth Valley’s late prehistoric settlement pattern and how native peoples interacted with the Roman Conquest, this dig (in Scotland’s oldest and best-preserved Royal Park) is open to beginners and is meant to be fun and relaxed. This year will include digging a previously unknown Iron Age/Roman burial mound discovered in the 2025 season. Under-17s must be accompanied by an adult.
