Celebrate the turning of the Winter Solstice in Avalon Archaeology’s reconstructed Anglo Saxon Hall. The hall will be decked in greenery and the new year will be welcomed in with a roaring fire to burn the Yule Log. Bring along your lyre, as there will be welcoming poems, songs, and stories from any budding bard, scop, musician, or storyteller who would like to entertain. The stage will be open to all throughout the day. The event is free for all those who partake in the entertainment, or £5.25 to those just wishing to be part of the audience. There are concessions for 5- to 17-year olds; under-5s are free.

Part of the Institute of Archaeology/British Museum Medieval Archaeology Seminar Series, this talk by Dr Sam Leggett from the University of Edinburgh explores migration patterns in early medieval England from c.AD 400 to 1100 using multi-scalar isotopic and aDNA data, highlighting some individual migration stories. These patterns are gendered, regionally distinctive, and fluctuate chronologically. The talk is free and open to anyone.

The 2026 IMASS International Shipwreck Conference will host a range of speakers along with a lobby full of stands showcasing various organisations within the shipwreck community. The conference is run by wreck enthusiasts for wreck enthusiasts, and aims to provide a meeting place for divers, explorers, archaeologists, and salvors, as well as governmental and commercial organisations. The organisers are all divers with interests in maritime archaeology and history, and the varied nature of the speakers reflects this make-up. Tickets cost £30.
