Following a public outcry over new ‘renovation’ work on the Pyramid of Menkaura at Giza, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has decided not to approve the continuation of the project. The original aims were to restore, document, and then reassemble the granite blocks lying near to the pyramid, but a video released on Facebook showed footage of workers already installing the blocks. Egyptologists have pointed out that these stones were not actually part of the original structure, but were left on the ground after construction on the pyramid was halted.
