Two decades of restoration work has finally been completed in the Tomb of Amenhotep III (WV22). The preservation of the tomb scenes was carried out by a Japanese-Egyptian team under the sponsorship of the UNESCO Japan Trust Fund. Restoration work was also carried out on the red granite sarcophagus, with more than 200 fragments put back into place. The tomb is not fully decorated, but contains beautifully painted scenes of Amenhotep III with various gods and scenes from the Book of the Dead decorating the burial chamber. Following the press launch, the tomb is currently open to visitors only by special permission.
