A joint team from the Ministry of Antiquities and the University of Colorado have completed the restoration and reinstallation of a number of huge granite columns at Ashmunein, in Minya Governorate. Known as Hermopolis Magna in the Graeco-Roman era, the city was the centre of worship for the god Thoth (Djehuty). The columns, now in their original locations, belong to a 5th century AD basilica dedicated to the Virgin Mary, which was built on the ruins of a Ptolemaic temple.
