Archaeologists excavating the site at Coleshill Manor, east of Birmingham, found evidence that a newly discovered fortified gatehouse there had at one point come under intense fire.
Archaeologists from Wessex Archaeology, working in advance of HS2 construction, have been excavating the site for the past three years.
The installation is part of the HW1900 Festival and will be open to the public until 30 October.
Built in the early 14th century, the castle is known for its striking 100ft-high gatehouse and one of the best preserved great halls in the country.
