Later this month we will head to our new venue at University College London’s Institute of Education for Current Archaeology Live! 2023, in partnership with UCL’s Institute of Archaeology. We’re getting ready to hear leading experts discussing archaeology from across the UK and abroad, and we hope you can join us on 25 February (Saturday) for another stimulating and enjoyable conference. Our keynote speaker will be Shahina Farid, the former Field Director and Project Coordinator at the Neolithic site of Çatalhöyük in Turkey and current scientific dating coordinator for Historic England. We will also have the opportunity to learn more about research recently featured in CA, including the Harpole Treasure (CA 395), the Roman villa at Dings Crusaders, near Bristol (CA 394), the newly discovered turret along Hadrian’s Wall (CA 392), and the latest on underwater archaeology around the UK (CA 389 and 391), as well as a host of other projects at home and further afield.
At the end of the conference, we will announce the results of the prestigious Current Archaeology Awards for 2023 (sponsored by Andante Travels, Oxbow Books, Wessex Insurance Brokers Ltd, and the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford), as well as the winners of our sister-magazine Current World Archaeology’s Photograph of the Year (sponsored by Ace Cultural Tours).

This year’s conference will be at University College London’s Institute of Education, located just off Russell Square. The nearest tube stations are Russell Square on the Piccadilly line, and Goodge Street on the Northern line. Tottenham Court Road underground station is fairly nearby. The main entrance is at 20 Bedford Way, but there is a small chance that, due to ongoing building work, we may have to use another entrance on Thornhaugh Street. If this is the case you will be directed accordingly; both entrances are marked with stars.
There are many food options around Russell Square, including on Bernard Street and in the nearby Brunswick Centre. If you want to explore further during lunch break, the British Museum is just across Russell Square, while the British Library is a 12-minute walk away on Euston Road.
